Objective: To evaluate the clinical therapeutic efficacy and technical Mechanismwith Lauromacrogol foam sclerotherapy and Ethanol for venous malformations(VM)treatment. Methods: Between March2008and August2011,the71patients (82Lesions) withvenous malformations were treated with Lauromacrogol foam sclerotherapy andEthanol injection in department of interventional radiology of the Union Hospital ofFujian Medical University. The data were divided them into two groups A/B. and theneach group was divided into two teams as A1/A2and B1/B2respectively. A1,highflow VM,is of23lesions.A2, low flow VM, is of17lesions. B1and B2are of25,17lesions respectively. Group A are those cured by injecting with Lauromacrogl foamsclerotherapy and group B with absolute ethanol. The curative effects and safety wereanalyzed by comparision. Results: Cases with excellent clinical efficacy showed tumor regression on T2weighted MR images with high signal to reduce and tumors reduction after thetreatment of sclerotherapy. The total effective rate of group A is70%, with A156.2%and A288.2%. The totcal effective rate of B is95.2%, at B192%and B2100%. Theeffective rate of group A compared with B, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). The effective rate of group A1compared with B1, the difference wasstatistically significant(P<0.05).The effective rate of group A2compared with B2, thedifference was without statistically significant difference (P>0.05). Commen sideeffects of sclerotherapy include fever, pain, local soft tissue swelling, gastrointestinalreactions. Local tissue necrosis and ulceration were obseved in4cases (9.5%) of absolute ethanol group. However, serious complications, such as cardiopulmonary andcerebrovascular accidents, were absent in both groups of patients.Conclution:1.The efficacy of ethanol sclerotherapy in treating venous malformationswas significantly better than that of lauromacrogol foam sclerotherapy.2. For highflow VM lesions with rapid drain veins, absolute ethanol sclerotherapy waspreferred.3. Lauromacrogol foam sclerotherapy is a safe, effective, and technicallyfeasible treatment for venous malformations. It is the prefered method of treating lowflow VM lesions with slowly drain veins. |
