In the domain of electromagnetic field (EMF) computation, finite element method(FEM) has been a dominant tool due to the generality and high accuracy it shows inapplication. However, drawbacks such as troublesome meshing and re-meshing areobstacles of FEM development for in-depth application. The introduction and research ofnew method are developing in this context and element free Galerkin method (EFGM) isone of these methods that progress rapidly.EFGM has been primarily applied to the computation of electromagnetic field withsome research production have attained, but it is difficult to find application toelectromagnetic field of electric machine and other electromagnetic apparatus withcomplicated structure and multi-mediums. Such situation could be mostly attributed to thedifficulties it face when it deal with electromagnetic problems with multi-mediums asinterface conditions should be treated, and the complicated structure that add difficulty inthe modeling, and also the low efficiency of the computation method.In this paper, an argument is proposed according to the character of electric machinethat the accuracy of computation result could fulfill requirement of engineering withouttaking interface conditions into account and its feasibility is proved theoretically.Modeling and calculation optimization scheme have been constituted to improve theefficiency of modeling and computation. Based on the presentation of this article, EFGMis applied to computation of synchronous generators with salient poles or latent poles inno load condition, and the reliable calculation results show the points and measuresproposed in this paper is correct. Compared with FEM, advantage of EFGM in thepre-processing is very remarkable and it also indicates that element-free Galerkin methodhas potential power to cope with in-depth problems in this field.
