This thesis studies on measurement space of Internet IP level topology. As the Internet has grown, so has the challenge of existing measure methods. The IP level Internet topology measurement is influenced by various Internet equipments from different aspects. These equipments might be weakening the effect of the original methods and limiting the measurement space. First, this thesis reviews the national and international current studies. Second, the thesis introduce the theory of traditional Traceroute method, load balanceing routers and flow identifier (described as a 5-tuple). We focus on port field, and analyze the effect of probe packets with different ports. Some of these ports being used by network attack. Firewall and IDS (Intrusion detection system) in the Internet are always filtering these packets so that we cannot get the response message and the method is inefficient. Based on these analyses, we sort destination ports as useable ports for measurement and cannot useable ports for measurement. We then design measure experiment to validate the usability and validity of these ports in order to get a bigger measurement space. This measure destination was selected from CN area that was distributed by APNIC. As the number of useable ports was so large, we can't measure all of them. So we found a way of choosing some of them as the destination ports of the probe packets. This measure used two probe packets. They were TCP packets and UDP packets. Furthermore we analyzed and validated the measurement results by a variety of metrics. Finally, our experiment results show that some of ports are usable and validity in Internet IP level topology measurement. The space of measurement was expanded.Meanwhile we provide some efficient destination ports for each method.
