Caltha palustris L. belongs to family Ranunculaceae, which located in the southwest, northwest and northeast of China. It has been used as a kind of Chinese traditional herbalmedicine applied to Cold-dispelling, but it was weak on chemical study. The researches on itschemical constituents have rarely been reported. The purpose of this research is to show thevalues of this plant and to give some references for the systematic classification. Based on thetheories and principles of phytochemistry, the chemical constituents of Caltha palustris L.from Qinling Mountain was studied. In present paper, the biological characteristics, distribution and related researches abroadof Caltha palustris L. and the researches on phytochemical components and pharmacologicalactivities of Trollius and Helleborus were reviewed briefly. In this study, five compounds were isolated and purified from70%ethanolic extract ofCaltha palustris L., through methods of silica gel column chromatography, columnchromatography on Sephadex LH-20and recrystallization. The compounds above wereidentified as LTC-14Kaempferol3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside,LTC-154′,7,8-Trihydroxyisoflavone7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, LTC-7a p-Hydroxybenzoicacid, LTC-1Dibutyl phthalate and a new compound LTC-3(5,5,8,8-tetraethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrodiindeno[2,1-c:1',2'-e]pyridazine) by spectroscopic analysis containing MS, NMRas well as comparasion with the related literatural data. In addition, LTC-7a, LTC-1andLTC-15were isolated from Caltha palustris L. for the first time.
