Objective:To observe the clinical effect of SangJiWenDan decoction therapy on hypertension in old patients with liver yang hyperactivity and phlegm-fire syndrome.Methods:40 old patients diagnosised as hypertension with liver yang hyperactivity and phlegm-fire syndrome were enrolled in this study. All patients were randomly divided into therapy and control groups separately (20 in therapy group and 20 in control). SangJiWenDan decoction plus routine western drugs was the main therapy in treatment group and the only routine western drugs was the main therapy in control group. The level of blood biochemical index, such as blood pressure, blood lipid, uric acid, C-reactive protein and homocysteine was collected every 4 weeks.Outcomes:1. Clinical effect on antihypertension:After treatment, the total effect rate was 100%(therapy group) vs 95%(control group). The level of 24HSSD,24hDSD, day SSD, day DSD and night SSD were decreased compared with initial (P<0.05). There was only decline in day SSD in control group (P<0.05). The 24hSSD was lower in therapy group than that in control (P< 0.05).2. Clinical effect on Chinese Medicine syndrome manifestation:The discomforts such as vertigo, headache, face rush, thirst and constipation were improved in therapy group.3. Clinical effect on blood biochemistry index:The level of TCH, LDL, LP, Ua, Hs-CRP, HCY were all decreased compared with initial (P<0.05). The level of TCH and HCY were lowed compared with initial (P<0.05).Conclusion:The study showed that SangJiWenDan decoction plus routine western antihypertensive drugs could alleviate the discomfort in old patients with hypertension and improve the quality of life. The combined therapy could reduce the blood pressure variability and regulate the blood biochemical index such as lipid, Ua, CRP and HCY as well.
