ObjectiveThe main purpose of this study is to describe different stages self-care agency and its influence factors of the permanement colostomy patients during the third month after discharge.Methods60 permanement colostomy patients who were diagnosed with rectum cancer from in 1 hospital in Tianjin from December 2009 to October 2010 received continous care outside the hospital. The self-care agency was measured by the exercise of self-care agency scale (ESCA). The measure was done when the patients left hospital, the first month, the second month and the third month after hospital. The general data was described by using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The single factor analysis use two independent sample t test and one way ANOVA. The multiple factors were analyzed by using multiple regression analysis.Results①The self-care agency includes four dimensions.45% permanent colostomy patients in higher levels of self-care when they left hospital. After 3 months the number reach 93.33%. All of the four dimensions increase, but the levels are different among the different stages. During the dimensions the change of self-care knowledge is the most obvious.②The single factor analysis showed that influence factors of self-care agency (ESCA) included sex, age, eduction degree, family income, companion, occupation, complications, and the self-feeling of disease. The factors could affect the self-care agency of patient, and the effects were different on different stages.③The multiple factors analysis showed that influence factor of sex, age, eduction degree, family income, companion, occupation, complications entered into regression equation. These influence factors could attect the self-care agency of patients on different stages.ConclusionsThe self-care agency of patients with colostomy was above the middle level. The self-care agency of patients was effected by sex, age, eduction degree, family income, companion, occupation complications after patients left hospital. The results indicated that clinic nursing and community nursing should establish the continous care plans according to the individual circumstance and stage in order to increase self-esteem and strengthen self-responsibility,improve health knowledge and self-care skill of colostomy patients. So as to enhance the self-care agency of colostomy patients, and improve their quality of life.
