Crankshaft and camshaft are vital parts of the value train in automotive engines of which structure design and machining quality affect the performance of engines directly. To develop engines with properties of low-oil-consumption and low-pollution-emission, the camshaft outlines must be designed precisely and sophisticated measuring equipments are essential in the process. In order to measure the camshaft, the technology of diameter measurement is the basis, therefore, main work of the paper is the implementation of a novel method for diameter measurement of the shaft parts. In order to meet the requirement of high precision measurement of the shaft parts, a transmission laser scanning diameter measurement sensor prototype is designed and developed based on the analysis of various laser scanning diameter measurement technologies.Main work included as follows:1. Using parallel light scanning method and the laser scanning transmitter is composed of flat-crystal, which can achieve high parallel beam in low cost.2. Researching on the work principle of the transmission laser scanning diameter measurement technology and analyzing on the related characteristics of non-linear measuring.3. Analyzing on the influence of flat-crystal assemble error on measurement, simulation of dynamic characteristics of precision bearing system and on these base designing the mechanical structure of the transmitter.4. Implementation of the photoelectric detection circuit and embedded digital processing circuit based on FPGA hardware platform. Development of the measurement software runs on the upper-computer.5. Achievement of a test prototype, calibration combined with knife-edge method and non-linear data fitting, testing on the measuring accuracy of the prototype.
