This paper describes the problem of steel industry in the manufacturing process to expound the significance of automatic measuring system, overviews related theories and domestic and international research in present. The design requirement of automatic measuring system is based on the requirement of general technical specification of steel pipe for natural gas pipeline.First of all, this paper describes the general planning of automatic measuring system. The design conditions, design parameters, technical data are briefly discussed. This thesis analyzes four kinds of roundness evaluating methods, such as the least squire circle method, the minimum circumscribed circle method, the maximum inscribed circle method and the minimum zone circle method. Introduce the evaluating theory of LSC, establishes the mathematical model of the least squire circle. Then, introduces the photoelectric detection technology and compare the difference between straight beam method of Laser Triangulation and angle beam method Laser Triangulation. The differences between PSD and CCD are brought into comparison. In this system, LK-G400 series product is used as the sensor.Next, S7-315 PLC is used as the control system, IPC-610MB is used as upper machine, SINAMICS S120 series inverter is used as the Servo System. Introduce how to use locate function in Starter. Finally, in order to make sure the data can be transmit at high speed, the time of PLC is calculated to choose the best plan. By comparison, replace the analog input with CP341 module. Use the least-square circle arithmetic which programmed by Visual Basic to calculate the experimental data. The systematic error is analyzed at last.
