The video monitoring system is convenient and intuitive, could provide remote video information. It could be widely used in industrial, transportation, finance, teaching and other fields. As the development of computer and network technology, network video monitoring system will replace the traditional monitoring mystem and play an important role in many fields. This paper describes the way to design the software of infrared video monitoring system based on embedded system. The system use the i.mx27 processor with the ARM9 core, Linux OS. to encode the picture captured from infrared CCD, then send the picture to another same embedded system, this system will decode the picture, display it on the LCD and finally achieve the goal of remote monitoring. As the infrared CCD would not be affect by the dim light. So, this monitoring mystem could be used all days. This paper focuses on embedded Linux OS to build the software of embedded network video monitoring system. First, we make a comparison of the hardware of some monitoring system, and describe the system hardware we used. Then we introduce the software platform, and the way to download uboot. Linux kernel, and jffs2 file system to the embedded system, and briefly introduce the way to compile and download drivers. Finaly, we introduce the application software design process and realize the goal to design the software of infrared video monitoring system.
