USB (Universal Serial Bus) is a mainstream bus standard of PC peripheral interface, which extends its applications to industrial automatic instruments. USB has many advantages such as fast speed, plug and play, hot plug-unplug and ease of use. In this paper, a new type of downhole memory gauge using USB interface is discussed. It can replace the traditional RS-232 serial port. The memory gauge connects with measure instruments through a monobus and accomplishes data acquisition and data storage. Using USB interface, PC can initialize memory gauge to set work parameter and the data stored in memory gauge can be transmitted quickly to PC. In this paper, according to the design targets and based on the USB system architecture, the system is detailed introduced from three points of view: hardware, software and USB device driver. In memory circuit the memory module consists of many 24LC512. USB device is based on PDIUSBD12 and transmitted data through bulk transfers type. USB device driver is developed using Driver Works and complies with WDM.
