Taking a comprehensive view of social life since the 90s of last century, people will find that, in addition to the significant economic development and increasing class differentiation, the public's heightened awareness of rights and more general social participations have also been the features that cannot be ignored. To a larger extent, these features generate with the development of market economy. The Public participate in the community mainly through the media which make their voices heard. Organizations supported by alternative media are considered to be the vitality of democracy; these organizations convey various views of community and put forward various policy initiatives for the political system to consider. 1Homosexuality has been the subject of dispute since long time. But as society advances, people's gradual awakening of right awareness, therefore, gives birth to the demands of homosexual rights. This paper explores two issues through content analysis about TONGXIN, a homosexual magazine founded by Chengdu Gay Community Organization. First, as one of the alternative media of China's gay community, TONGXIN reproduces the life style and situations of homosexuality in China's western cities after 2000; Second, through the means of content analysis and telephone interviews, we gain the insight into the grass root organization- Chengdu Gay Community Organization, which produces the alternative media TONGXIN, as China's domestic NGO, how it participates in the context of globalization in the fight against HIV and in the gay community building.
