Since the 1990s, Internet, which has unique advantage in convenience for delivering information have been popular worldwide, and after recent years of development, network media has been a major access for netizens to obtain information.Network news special coverage on major public emergencies generally depends on network and provides continuous, comprehensive and deep reports of the news in multi-ways and forms of presentation. It also digs information behind the event. With advantages such as quick spreading, multi-way information communication and multi-angle interaction, this kind of report attracts great attention of netizens and is good in communication effects.Network news special coverage on major public emergencies can help maintaining social stability and prompting network news development. Currently, literature on network news special coverage generally focuses on concept, feature, classification, function, history, current situation and production skills, edition principles of news special reports, thus study in this area is relatively mature. There are also ones studying network news special coverage centering on such aspects as brand building, agenda setting and network news interaction, and there is also literature studying from specific angles such as finance, sports, entertainment. While presently literature studying from major public emergencies is seldom seen. Although some existing ones put focus on practice of network news special coverage, it is scattering, which neither study deeply, systematically nor reveal the content, reporting advantage and operation features of major network news report under new media era. Changes in communication effect is not reflected either. Thus this paper here tries to contribute for this area and provide new study for it.By analyzing Japan 9.0-magnitude earthquake, tsunami and nuclear leak it triggered, this paper combining with background of new media era systematically researches the following four aspects:first, new content of network news special coverage for major public emergency and its advantage in news report; second, changes in network news special coverage edition operation; third, discussion of the communication effect of special coverage on major public emergency; finally, providing suggestions on how to improve communication effects on the basis of insufficient coverage for analysis of public emergencies, also providing suggestions for how to effectively report major public emergencies.
