Girls Wear Sports Uniforms

Lots of school girls are not satisfied with their sport-style school uniform and willing to do some kind of change or modification to their uniforms.This study made this phenomenon as a breakthrough point and tried to analyze the multi-identity construction issues of the girl students in the secondary school from the educational sociology perspective.The researcher carried out a three-month participant observation,and a large number of interviews and survey work in a local middle school L.The study found that secondary school girls have three identities at the same time,a "girl","juvenile" and "students".However,the sport-style uniform for girls works as a media or tool to help the school authorities maintain the "student" identity of girl student,while hide the "girl" and "juvenile" identities of them.These maintaining and hiding influence the self-identification of the secondary girl students directly. While being limited and managed,girl students are also self-reflecting,and then they explain the meaning of these three identities differently from the school authority.It is this different understanding that makes them oppose the school uniform.In addition,school administrators,teachers and students play a very important role in the process of identity construction of the students,and also they are struggling for the power in the interaction around the school uniform.
