The mass media is an important factor which influences the values of individuals. It is another key social environment which influences the shaping of teenagers' values besides the economic, political and cultural environment. Being one form of the mass media, the television media has the most direct and deep influence on teenagers. To a certain extent, its effects even exceed the school in guiding and molding teenagers' values. However, while receiving the positive influence of television dissemination, teenagers are also exposed to the negative factors of the television dissemination which are misleading their concept of values.Based on the facts of the various influences from the television media on teenagers' values, the thesis indicates that the television media has the function of directing the values of teenagers, and analyzes the internal mechanism through which the television media influences teenagers' values and teenagers accept the influence. By listing in detail both the positive and negative effects of the television media on teenagers' values, the thesis seeks for the means to exert the positive function of the television media in guiding values. To be specific, from the angle of values education, all positive factors of the government, media, school, family and the teenagers themselves should be coordinated as a whole and be exerted in dealing with the negative effects from the television media so as to form a united force of values education. Moreover, from the angle of the television media, it is suggested that the management and supervision on the media, professional qualities of employees, the system of program classification, production of TV programs and the participation of teenagers in the media should be improved so as to achieve the positive values guidance of the media for teenagers.
