| To investigate the relationship of calcification and thyroid carcinoma and its effect on the diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma.Case-control study:retrospective analysis of the patients who undergoing the thyroid surgery from March,2006 to March,2009 in Huashan Hospital, Fudan University. There were a total of 1836 cases of patient data, including 536 cases of malignant tumor. Follow up was emphasized on the calcification and formal pathological type. All data were inputted into SPSS 17.0 for statistical analysis.Calcification of thyroid carcinoma incidence rate was 70.79%, and that of the benign thyroid disease is 28.57%, the results were statistically significant(P<0.001); the difference of thyroid calcification and calcification of thyroid carcinoma in different gender was not statistically significant (P>0.05); the incidence of thyroid carcinoma in the group of <45-year-old is 40.52%, while that of group of≥45-year-old was 43.3%, the results were statistically significant (P<0.05); the difference between single node group (64.14%) and multiple nodes group (43.3%) which both has calcification was statistically significant (P<0.05). The proportion of enlargement of lymph nodes which was finally proved to be metastasis was 26.80%.Calcification to the diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma has high specificity and shows great importance in clinical practice. To investigate the osteopontin's effect on the generation and development of thyroid carcinoma, especially its calcification.Experiment:the data which was extracted from the Year 2008's cases of the first part were divided into 5 groups (A:carcinoma with micro-calcificaion;B:carcinoma without calcification;C:benign tumors with micro-calcification;D:carcinoma with lymph node metastasis;E: normal thyroid tissue). Each cases undergoes immunohistochemistry for OPN staining. The results were inputted into SPSS 17.0 for statistical analysis.Osteopontin in micro-calcified thyroid carcinoma was 100% positive(5/5),while the normal thyroid tissues was 0%(0/5), it showed significant difference. The positive rates of OPN in the thyroid carcinoma without calcification and thyroid carcinoma with lymph node metastasis are both 80%(4/5), while compared with the normal thyroid tissues, the results were statistically significant; benign tumors with micro-calcificaton was 40%(2/5) positive, while compared with the normal thyroid tissues, the results were not statistically significant.Osteopontin expression in thyroid carcinoma is quite high, but the relationship between OPN and calcification is not yet clear. |
