Semen Descurainiae is the ripe dried seeds of Lepidium apetalum Willd. It's a well-known Chinese medicine, widely distributed in the northeast of China,Hebei province,Inner Mongolia, etc.It has the effect of removing heat from the lung and relieving asthma, inducing diuresis and diminishing swelling, according to the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In recent years,it is less of the study of the Semen Descurainiae. In order to develope the medicine,we studied its chemical constitutes.First,we made preventive tests systemetically and wholly. The method of chemical qualitative analysis is used. The most chemical constitutes possibly exsited in this medicine were detected and analysed. Then we got three constitutes from the alcohol extract of Semen Descurainiae.Macroporous resin,Silica gel column chromatography and preparative HPLC were used to isolate the compounds.3 compounds were separated within them.Physical parameters, spectroscopic techniques along with chemical reaction were used for structural elucidation. They are sinapine bisulfate, sinapic acid and p-hydroxy benzaldehyde.Sinapic acid is first found in this plant. Moreover,we analysed volatile oils and fatty acids in Semen Descurainiae by GC/MS and detected 16 kinds of volatile oils,11 kinds of fatty acids.1-Octanamine,N-methyl-,Octodrine,N-dl-Alanylglycine, 1-Methyloctadecylamine,Tetratriacontane,and 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid,9-Octadecenoic acid,Heptdecanoic acid,16-methyl,13-Docosenoic acid,Nonanoic acid,9-oxo-are first detected from this plant. The study lay a theoretical foundation of further research of pharmacodynamic substance base of Semen Descurainiae and improvement of quality evaluation standard, simultaneouly,it has provided the important science basis for studying the similarities and differences of Semen Descurainiae and Semen Lepidii.
