The Yunnanbaiyao On The Treatment Of Mouth Ulcers And Gingivitis

Oral ulcer and gingivitis are two very common oral diseases. Thepathogenesis of oral ulcer is not clear at present but is shown to havesomething to do with heredity, immunology and so on. Acetic acid andphenol are two widely used oral ulcer models. Gingivitis is the earlypathological change of periodontal disease and it is closely related to plaque.In this article, we showed that 0.65% Yunnan Baiyao has potent effect onanti-inflammation and hemostasis (p＜0.05). We found that 0.65% YunnanBaiyao decreased ulcer area in guinea pig model induced with acetic acid(p＜0.05); it also reduced ulcer area (p＜0.05), relieved congestion (p＜0.05)and decreased recovering time (p＜0.01) in rabbit model induced with phenol.In addition, 0.65% Yunnan Baiyao also inhibited plaque, relieved gingivalbleeding and reduced inflammatory cell-infiltration in beagle dogs (p＜0.05).
