Objective: 1) surveying nurses' opinion of continuing nursingeducation in First Class of the third Grade Hospitals in Beijing. 2)surveying nurses' needs of continuing nursing education in First Classof the third Grade Hospitals in Beijing. 3) Describing the differences ofdifferent nurses' needs. 4) discussing factors affecting the needs ofcontinuing nursing education.Methods: a questionnaire is used to investigate nurses in First Classof the third Grade Hospitals of Beijing. This questionnaire is composedof six dimension scale of nursing clinical performance and generalinformation. 184 nurses complete them and the analysis of data is achievedusing the software SPSS 10.0 package.Results: 1) the mostobvious problem in continuing nursing educationis that its content is not suitable to the clinical work.2) The scores that nurses got in Teaching/Collaboration, Leadership,Planning/Evaluation, IPR/Communications, Professional Development arebelow 3 which is the dividing score. Score of Teaching/Collaborationsubscale is the lowest. Score of Critical Care subscale is above 3.3) Different nurses' score of Six-D is different.4) The working life, life of continuing nursing education, age,title, present degree, first degree, section office, position, workingplace are the factors related to Six-D. multiple simultaneous regressionindicated that all factors contributed to Six-D scale except age, presentdegree, section office and working place. First degree is the mostimportant factor to Six-D scale.Conclusion: 1) the most obvious problem in continuing nursingeducation is that its content is not suitable to the clinical work. 2)nurses need learn knowledge about Teaching and Collaboration urgently. 3)different nurses' needs of continuing nursing education are different so that the knowledge they need is different. 4) the most important factorrelated to nurses' needs of continuing nursing education is their firstdegree. Other factors such as working place also have influence onnurses' needs of continuing nursing education to some extent. Continuingnursing education program should be developed according to the differentneeds of different nurses so that its quality could be ensured.
