Objective: Study on the distribution regularity of TCM syndrome patterns of essential hypertension (EH) and the correlation among the grade and risk stratifications of EH, pulse pressure (PP), course of disease, age and syndrome patterns, to provide a sufficient evident of differentiation of syndromes in combination of Chinese traditional and western medicine, to advance clinic level for differentiation of symptoms and treatment. Methods: Totally 502 patients with essential hypertension are divided into four group according to the Standardization of Syndrome Of the Guide Book of New TCM Pharmaceutic Clinical Research (2002 edition), count the frequency of four syndromes patterns and the distribution among the grade and risk factor of EH, PP, course of disease, age and syndrome patterns, make them comparison and analysis. Results: 1. Arrange four TCM syndrome patterns of EH according to their constitute ratio in order: yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity syndrome > excessive phlegm-dampness syndrome > yin-yang deficiency syndrome > liver-fire hyperactivity syndrome. 2. The syndromes both excessive phlegm-dampness and liver-fire hyperactivity are known as the majority of grade 1 and grade 2 of EH and the other two syndromes are known as the majority of grade 2 and grade 3 of EH. There is statistical significances.3. The syndrome of yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity is highest in the systolic blood pressure. The syndrome of liver-fire hyperactivity is different significantly from the other three syndromes. The syndrome of liver-fire hyperactivity is highest in the diastolic blood pressure.4. The liver-fire hyperactivity is known as the low risk group and the medium risk group, the excessive phlegm-dampness is known as the medium...
