The Gehua Ehd-hangover Effect Comparative Study

Alcoholic beverages have been used since the dawn of history. A geat amount of alcohol have been consumed by adult, aged or even young over the world. Alcohol -related morbidity and mortality is serious problem of sanitation and society.Alcoholism comprise acute alcoholism and chronic alcoholism. Regard to the treatment of acute alcoholism, there is short of real effective method in modern medicine, but a clear advantage does exist in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM). Our study discuss Flos Puerariae and Hovenia dulcis Thunb' s effect of relieving alcohol toxicity by literature and animal experiments. The study expects to provid scientific and academic reference to prevent and cure acute alcoholism effic— iently.Firstly, we expatiated on the knowledge of the name, pathogeny, pathogenesis, treatment, prescription of alcoholism in the literatures of ancient TCM, and correlative knowledge of modern medicine. The study emphasized concluding on the acute alcoholism treatment of TCM in recent several years, which will found a primary theory on discussing the function of Flos Puerariae and Hovenia dulcis Thunb.Then we summarized correlative literature recordation about Flos Puerariae and Hovenia dulcis Thunb specially, most ancient Canon of Materia Medica record Flos Puerariae and Hovenia dulcis Thunb' s relieving alcohol toxicity function, the modern experiment show that Flos Puerariae and Hovenia dulcis Thunb has definite function of relieving alcohol toxicity and has a long history of appli— cation.Based on the study of literature, we observed Flos Puerariae and Hovenia dulcis Thunb curative effect on prevention of drunkenness through animal experiments. After duplicating the animal models of acute alcoholism by the way of gaster "er guo tou" given, we studied influence of Flos Puerariae and Hovenia dulcis Thunb on the lethargic time, spontaneous locomotion activity, study and memory test, the balance of act, and metabolism of alcohol of acute alcoholic mouse. We get the following results:Aqueous extract of Flos Puerariae and Hovenia dulcis Thunb can resist the depression of alcohol on central neural system, which is shown by shortening the sleeping time, reducing amount of spontaneous locomotion activity caused by excitement of central neural system, improving the ataxia and improving study and memory of mice.It can decrease alcohol concentration in blood effectively and improve the activity of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) in the liver.In summary, Flos Puerariae and Hovenia dulcis Thunb can mitigate the toxic signs and symptoms of acute alcohol, and has effect of relieving alcohol toxicity and preventing drunkenness, promoting the metabolism of alcohol in the liver.
