With the alcohol consumption increasing,the attack of alcoholism has been appeared toascend.Excessive ingestion of alcohol,especially strong drink,can not only bring aboutdamages to center neural system,digestive system,circular system,and so on,but also canendanger stabilization of family and society.Alcoholism has been a serious problem ofsanitation and society. Alcoholism comprise acute alcoholism and chronic alcoholism.Regard to the treatmentof acute alcoholism,there is short of real effective method in modern medicine,but a clearadvantage does exist in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).Our study discuss Hoveniadulcis Thunb's effect of relieving alcohol toxicity by literature and animal experiments.Thestudy expects to provid scientific and academic reference to prevent and cure acutealcoholism efficiently. Firstly,we expatiated on the knowledge of the name,pathogeny,pathogenesis,treatment,prescription of alcoholism in the literatures of ancient TCM,and correlativeknowledge of modern medicine.The study emphasized concluding on the acute alcoholismtreatment of TCM in recent several years,which will found a primary theory on discussing thefunction of Hovenia dulcis Thunb. Then we summarized correlative literature recordation about Hovenia dulcis Thunbspecially, Newly Revised Materia Medica record "If we build a house to use Hovenia dulcisThunb 'wood ,the wine smell in the house become thinly in the first instance. From thenon,most ancient Canon of Materia Medica record Hovenia dulcis Thunb's relieving alcoholtoxicity function,the modern experiment show that Hovenia dulcis Thunb has definitefunction of relieving alcohol toxicity and has a long history of application. Based on the study of literature,we observed Hovenia dulcis Thunb curative effect onprevention of drunkenness through animal experiments.After duplicating the animal modelsof acute alcoholism by the way of gaster "er guo tou" given,we studied influence of Hoveniadulcis Thunb on the lethargic time, spontaneous locomotion activity, study and memory test,the balance of act, and metabolism of alcohol of acute alcoholic mouse.We get the followingresults: Aqueous extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunb can resist the depression of alcohol on centralneural system,which is shown by shortening the sleeping time,reducing amount ofspontaneous locomotion activity caused by excitement of central neural system,improving theataxia and improving study and memory of mice.It can decrease alcohol concentration inblood effectively and improve the activity of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) in the liver.
