Objective:To estimate the sleep quality of senile people in community as well as the related factors. To explore the effects of sleep health preservation on the senile people in community. Methods:Convenience sampling was used to investigate 148 senile residents in Huayanbeili Community in Beijing and their sleep quality were evaluated by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Then 70 senile residents with worse sleep quality (PSQI≥7points) were selected and divided into intervention group and control group at random. The data of two groups such as personal information and sleep quality were without significant differences. Intervention group received health education on sleep health preservation knowledge and pre-sleep care such as exercise, soaking feet, and self-massage. Health education were conducted by means of giving lecture and guidance and telephone visiting individual and momentarily by the researchers and establishing consulting room in community health service to help the participants master the knowledge. Control group did not receive the sleep health preservation. The data of sleep quality were measured again after 1 month.Results:(1) Sleep quality of 148 senile residents in communities. The mean score of PSQI in 148 senile residents was (7.50±3.40) points.81 senile residents (54.73%) were with worse sleep quality (PSQI≥7points).There were significant differences among the senile residents with different age and vocation (P<0.05).71~75 year-old senile residents had worst sleep quality and medical staff and workers had worse sleep quality. There were significant differences among the senile residents with different family care index (P< 0.01),and sleep quality had negative correlation with family care index (r=-0.472, P<0.01).15.8% senile residents suffered mild-middle anxiety, and sleep quality had positive correlation with anxiety degree (r=0.519, P<0.01)(2) Trial study. After 1 month, sleep quality and anxiety status of intervention group were improved significantly than before (P<0.01) and were different from control group (P<0.01). The domains of PSQI in intervention group ordered by score changes (from high to low) were daily function disorder, sleep disorder, subjective sleep quality, fall-asleep time, sleep time, and sleep effect. Conclusions:Senile people in community have worse sleep quality which has positive correlation with anxiety. Although the factors related with sleep quality of senile people are complicated, family care should be attached importance to because of its direct influence on sleep quality. According to TCM theory and physique of senile people, it is effective that using sleep health preservation in promoting sleep quality for old persons in community and is simple and easy to do, so it fits in with TCM requests:simple, convenience, effective, cheap.
