Objective: To investigate the application of laparoscopic technique in women with chronic pelvic pain (CPP) to diagnose the causes of disease, CPP related factors, the efficacy of laparoscopic treatment and the differences between Uygur and Han patients. Methods: Laparoscopic examination and clinical data of 283 female patients with CPP from June 2008 to March 2009 of 1st Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University were analysised retrospectively. Results: 224 cases (79.15%) were laparoscopy confirmed pathological changes, the major three causes of women with CPP were endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and adenomyosis; including 80 cases with endometriosis (28.27%), 59 cases with PID (20.85%) and 32 cases with adenomyosis (11.31%); the occurrence and development of CPP was related to the endurence of pain and the history of cesarean section, abdominal surgury, the conservative treatment of ectopic pregnancy, etc. No statistic difference of related factors mentioned above was found between Uygur and Han patients with CPP. All patients underwent laparoscopic examination and treatment after 6 months follow-up, complete remission were 165 cases (58.30%), the basic relief were 72 cases (25.44%), no remission of 46 cases (16.25%), total effective rate was 83.75%. Conclusion: Laparoscopy can be used to identify most of causes of CPP and take appropriate operative treatment, it is a conventional and preferred means for diagnosis and treatment of females with CPP.
