The study of this item is the Flexible Machining Cell of MJ460 (FMC-MJ460) which is developed by the SMC Nanjing Technical Center and the Jinan firstMachine Tool Group Co.,Ltd. In this paper, the important component------thepneumatic double-manipulator portal frame of the system is analyzed by Finite Element Method(FEM). The portal frame is a hyper static structure, if it is analyzed by Material-Strength method, it is complex and large simplification must be made, and calculation accuracy is lower. Larger safety-factor is often adopted to ensure the portal frame safe, this results in large structure size, more material cost and higher manufacture cost. FEM is a method of high speed and high fidelity. The stress, displacement, stability and dynamics of the portal frame are made clearly after Finite Element Analysis(FEA) in the design stage, at the same time, it is conveniently to improve the structure of the frame repeatedly, to reach the target of structure optimization. Reduce the structure size, cost, and designing and manufacturing time with the portal frame safe.In this paper, building model, calculating loads, deciding boundary conditions, and building mesh are discussed. The main contents in the dissertation are summarized as follows: (l)With analyzing the structure of the portal frame, some simplification is made, and the tool of draft mirror and feature mirror is often used in building the model because the portal frame is symmetric;(2) Loads of the portal frame in different load conditions are analyzed and calculated;(3)Stress and displacement of the portal frame are plotted after static FEA and the manipulator snatch error is analyzed in this paper. The analysis results with FEM and with Material-Strength method are compared, this proves the model and the analysis result of the FEM is correct. (4)The stability of the portal frame column is analyzed, the column slender parts may fail in buckling, the analysis show the column is stability;(5)Through modal analyzing for the portal frame, some low-order natural frequencies and modals are obtained.In this paper, a lot of analysis and calculation is made by FEM, which provides mechanical simulation for the design of the portal frame, and provides scientific basis for selecting structure type, deciding structural parameters, increasing static and dynamic properties, reducing manufacture cost of the integral body of the portal frame.
