Research On The Shanghai Automobile Cluster Involved By Foreign Enterprises

With the acceleration of the globalization process, more and more attentions have been attached to the role in which foreign enterprises have played in the formation of local industrial clusters, especially in some regions of the developing countries. By attracting FDI, these regions create powerful local industrial networks which soon become an effective way of promoting the local economy. After the reform and opening up, China's automobile industry has developed rapidly by attracting FDI. Meanwhile, Shanghai automobile industry cluster which has a complete industrial chain and also is greatly influenced by foreign enterprises has already achieved the highest level in China. Shanghai automobile industry cluster is one of the most typical case in China. Therefore, after systematically reviewing and analyzing the related theories in industrial clusters involved by foreign enterprises, the thesis first summarizes the character of the automotive industry and different models of the development of worldwide automotive industry cluster. Second, the thesis analyzes the current status, network structures and dynamic factors of Shanghai automobile industry cluster as a case study. Finally, some policy suggestions are put forward to promoting the sustainable development of Shanghai automobile industry cluster.The thesis is divided into six parts:The first part introduces the purpose and significance of the thesis, reviews and summarizes the abroad and domestic researches correlatively. In the end, the thesis introduces the research base, object, content and innovations.The second part analyzes the fundamental theories of industrial clusters involved by foreign enterprises, includes the types, stages, industrial networks and dynamic factors.The third part expatiates on the character and producing process of the automotive industry. On the basis of it, this part summarizes different models of the development of worldwide automotive industry cluster. The fourth part is the paradigmatic analysis of Shanghai automobile industry cluster. After reviewing the general situation of Shanghai automobile industry cluster, by interviewing some key enterprises, the author analyzes the structure of industrial networks and inner mechanisms of Shanghai automobile industry cluster through three different dimensions which concludes vertical, horizontal and external networks. Then the dynamic factors are analyzed to explain the cause of the formation and development of Shanghai automobile industry cluster.In part five, to solve the existing problems of Shanghai automobile industry cluster, the author puts forward some policy suggestions to promoting the sustainable development of the cluster.The last part is the conclusion and discussion, In this part, the author sums up the main standpoints, points out the deficiencies of the whole thesis, and makes a simple discussion for the future research.
