With the development of society and economy, environment protection has already become one of the international issues on which we should put attention. According to the theory studies of the trade and environment, economy globalization and trade liberalization intensify the contradiction and the confliction between trade and environment. Sustainable trade, one of the important constitutions of sustainable development, is necessary requirement to achieve the coordinating development of trade and environment.This article analyzes the relationship between trade and environment, and regards the theories related to trade and environment, including the exteriorization, environment cost internalization, trade liberalism, trade protectionism, poverty growing and sustainable development theories as the analyzing bases and evaluating foundations. Constructing the sustainable trade development index system, we try to scientifically and perfectly describe the whole characteristic of sustainable trade from every aspect. On the basis of theories analyzing, we choose and process the apposite original indexes. Concluding the two statistical methods of principal component analysis and the limiting factor analysis, we comprehensively estimate the sustainability of our trade between 1992 and 2006, and give some relative suggestion to insist sustainable trade stratagem.The greatest innovation of this article is that we breakthrough the usual methods which emphasize study on the sustainable trade from qualitative appraisal. By constructing the index system, we use both qualitative appraisal and quantitative appraisal, in order to estimate the sustainability of our trade more integrated. However, we should particularly point out that the study in the field of trade and environment is not very consummate in our country, especially quantitative appraisal, which just began in these years. Primarily, this article tries to construct the model of comprehensively estimating sustainable trade therefore.
