The rapid development of embedded techniques, image processing techniques and wireless communications effectively promote the wide use of wireless image transmission technology in industry, security, medicine, military and consumer electronicts. Currently, the data acquisition and processing in wireless image transmission system is based on embedded IPC, FPGA, or DSP. The wireless image transmission is based on multi-channel video server and portable terminals of CDMA/EDGE wireless network, COFDM wireless video transmission equipment or the combination of video encoder & wireless transmission equipment, etc.A low-cost, flexible design of wireless image transmission system is proposed in this paper. The system is based on DSP & CPLD & wireless transmission module. It can complete image acquisition, digital image compression, wireless transmitting and receiving. It takes TI C55x high-speed, low-power DSP to complete the JPEG image completion, XILINX CPLD/FPGA as the master of image acquisition to complete image acquisition, OMNIVISION digital camera to provide image data for subsequent processing, NORDIC wireless transceiver chip to transmit and receive compressed image data. It takes high-speed SRAM to achieve high-speed image data buffering. It also expands large-capacity FLASH and SDRAM so that it has sufficient program and data storage space to meet the needs of a variety of occasions.Firstly, the application background and main task are introduced in this paper. Then the realization method of embedded image acquisition system, the theory of image compression coding and wireless transmission technologies are disscused. Based on the design requirements, a hardware design method of wireless image transmission system is proposed. Finally the algorithm and algorithm optimization are completed in this system and the shortcomings of the system are summarized.Preliminary experimental result shows that the system architecture is feasible. It lays a foundation for the further research of the wireless image transmission system. It has the advantages of small, high performance-price ratio, etc. Compared with traditional wireless image transmission system, it has strong generality and openness. The system can well meet different occasions and different requirements only by modifying the software.
