Embedded image processing and transmission system has the merit of small volume and high stability, and it has extensive application in these domains of intelligent transportation, electric power, communication, computer vision, etc. Along with the DSP technique development, the realization of the real-time video compression on DSP with the software becomes the high point in the standard applications of the digital video compression that is flexible and promotion potential compared with the special compression chips.This article proposes a method to the realization of off-line video acquisition, compression code and the video data communication, mainly based on the method to the realization of video encode software on TMS320VC5402 and the design of peripheral hardware system of TMS320VC5402.This design proposes precise acquisition of video signal completed by SAA7111 video acquisition chip of Philips Corporation. The FPGA was applied in the design of the complex and high-speed logic control and timing, high-speed hardware circuit of TMS320VC5402 extended RAM and Flash and encoding circuit of the DSP address, the acquisition digital video signals were stored in the TMS320VC5402 extended memory. It used FPGA based on NIOS II to come to realize the I~2C bus interface, which had resolved the SAA7111 initialization difficulty. A new memory expanded method was proposed: through changing interlacing analog video signal to digital signal saved by the line, processing digital image becomes convenient. According to the JPEG code algorithm, the digital image information acquisition using TMS320VC5402 is processed. The method to the realization of asynchronous serial port communication based on NIOS II has made up the weakness of TMS320VC5402 in the ability to control communication interface. The simple TCP/IP protocol on DSP has been realized, and it solves the key problem, and has carried on the suitable tailor according to the system actual needs to this protocol, and finally realizes image long-distance transmission based on the Ethernet. In addition, this article also simply introduced several key question in DSP application system design and how to Bootloader, and has given part of design schematic diagram and Verilog source code.
