Image communication is a quickly development of modern communication technology in recent years, the progress of image compression is an important part in the development of communication. A new generation of video coding standard H.264/AVC is proposed to solve the visual communication technology which is long-troubled in the application. H.264/AVC is the latest video standard of the ITU-T VCEG (Video Coding Expert Group) and ISO/IEC MPEG (Moving Picture Expert Group). Due to the high compression ratio, good image quality and network adaptability, H.264/AVC has been widely adopted by a lot of institutes and manufactures, greatly promoted the international and industrial applications such as video conference and video surveillance.The point of this dissertation is contraposed the warship video communication requirements as multi-channel,dynamic switch, bring forward a dual-core architecture video compression system based on DSP/ARM. Compared to the current server mode, it is an ideal platform for multi-channel video process and network transmission, as low-cost, good flexibility and easy to upgrade. Then we introduce the communication and control unit by the core of PXA255, the multimedia process unit by the core of DM642. Do deeply studying the H.264/AVC standard, the basic theory and key algorithms. Furthermore, we have focused on the H.264/AVC transplantation and certification on the DM642 hardware system, also do some optimization on it, give the emphases on the allocation of chip resources, CACHE settings, and DMA ping-pong operation according to the chip's feature. Finally, a real-time, four-way video codec of the CIF H.264 baseline profile level is realized on single chip, the channel can be switched by the application. The dissertation also introduces the part of communication system, HPI communication protocol between the DSP and ARM in detailed. Give the specific descriptions of the process of sending and receiving data. For image collection and VGA display, we give the detailed design, including the settings about driver's parameters and registers.
