With the continuous development of information society, the computingparadigm is gradua lly out spread from the network computing to pervasive computing,the life space also puts forward higher request of intelligence, so the concept of smartspace is proposed . An intelligent household space with a variety of devices can makethe better fusion of the person and the computing environment, let a person be inenjoying the service of computing environment imperceptibly.The pervasive computing environment based intelligent household space systemis a distributed system, whose hardware comprises of a variety of intelligenthousehold applia nce and heterogeneous network protocol. Located above thehardware platform, the house gateway - software platform - must be able toundersta nd the bottom structure of equipments in different applica tion environments.With the support of the intelligent house gateway, the equipments should be able toconnect and control with others , excha nge information and expand their basicfunctions of service s. At the same time these devices can join or withdraw from thehousehold gateway union, without concern to hardwares'low-level details -- So ascalled the device independency.Through the device-independent technology, we can make separation ofintelligent device hardware control, internal calculation and user interface. Theseparation can change the interaction mecha nism of intelligent devices flexiblywithout concern the bottom, which is the foundation of interoperability of intelligentdevices in intelligent space.Studies show that, through the formaliza tion of abstract method, variousheterogeneous intelligent devices can be described as an abstract equipment modelwith the same characteristics . These abstract descriptions of characteristics comprisesof the devices'public knowledge, including concept, attributes and relationship.Therefore, the gateway platform only need deal with a kind of equipment, thus shield sthe differences of the devices.This paper proposed the research on the ontology-based intelligent housedevice independency. Based on the expansion of OSGi, we construct the ontology driven intelligent house gateway (OSHG) to solve the problem of deviceindependence.The core design ideas of the OSHG are as follows : first,using RDF (S) / OWL to model and describe all kinds of intelligent household devicesand service resources , which helps establish the parameterized resource model andshield the device heterogeneity; Then on the basis we construct severa l functiona lmodule la yer: device and service registration, equipment and protocol conversion,context reasoning and awareness, expert group and so on. These modules can beloaded dynamica lly and confirm dependencies according to the configuration. Basedon OSHG we elaborate the operation mode and the independence principle ofintelligent devices .With the support of OSHG, the devices can interopera te with each other, theintelligent gateway is armed with sensing and reasoning ability, to provide users withmore advanced service. In addition, OSHG services is provide d in the form ofBundle, load ed dynamica lly, the system can support future expansion and otherapplica tion interfaces flexibly.Finally, this paper presents a model as an example, which proves thepracticability and valid ity, with summa rization and the prospect of further research.Results show that ontology based intelligent house gateway can better achievedevice-independent operation, and with the sensing and reasoning ability, which la ysa solid foundation for further research.
