Design And Implementation Of Network Topology Discovery System Oriented Network Management

With the development of computer networks, the importance of network management is more prominent. Network topology discovery as the most important thing of network management get more and more people's attention. In this paper, various methods of network topology discovery are detailed discussed, and the advantages and disadvantages of them are analyzed. A network topology discovery system is designed and implemented with SNMP-based approach mainly in combination with other methods, which is consisted by 2 layers: data link layer topology discovery and network layer topology discovery.The work of link layer topology discovery is showed follow. Firstly, the lack of existing method based on AFT (Address Forwarding Table) is discussed, and then paper simplified existing method based on AFT. Secondly, the paper proposes the faster and more effectively link layer topology discovery combined with spanning tree protocol. Access through the switcher with spanning tree related MIB variable to find connections between switches, switcher access to the address released by the exchange of information to arrive at the terminal to connect with relations. Thirdly, asynchronous detection of switcher is proposed for improving the efficiency of the topology discovery.The work of link layer topology discovery is showed follow. Firstly, the paper discussed the existing method: ICMP, ARP, DNS, OSPF, SNMP algorithms, analyzed advantages and disadvantages, scope of application of these different kinds of method. SNMP based method has been in-depth discussed. Through in-depth study MIB, the traditional methods of SNMP made to improve: the merger of a number of IP router to site, to limit the scope of the topology discovery, and through certain means to try to pair the internal network to conduct exploration.The experimental results and practical results show that the design of the topology system can get very good results accuracy and efficiency.
