Design And Implementation Of Nview Network Topology Discovery Management System Based On SNMP

With the development and popularization of the Internet, it is very important that the network can run stably or not, so there must be a comprehensive network management system to maintain and monitor network, at present the Nview comprehensive network management system of the author’s company is a comprehensive network management system that used in telecom industry, Nview is the company’s comprehensive network management system’s name, but the Nview comprehensive network management system still fill in the actual topology manually, it is low efficiency and prone to error, it could not update the network topology connection easily when the network structure changes, and it is restricted to search and exclude the network’s fault. Based on the above reasons, so the author decides to design and develop the network topology discovery management system. Network topology discovery is that it can discovery and update the network devices and the network devices’topology connection of the current network automatically, and can display the network topology connection and the network devices’information in graphical interface.Based on analyzing the Nview comprehensive network management system’s architecture, the paper decides to use C/S (Client/Server) model to develop network topology discovery management system. The client is the network topology management component, the function of the client is displaying the network topology connection by graphical interface and providing other topology management function, the client’s detailed design and development based on the MVC (Model-View-Controller) and Command model. The server is network topology discovery module, according to the comparative analysis of demand, the author decides to use every layer network topology discovery technology based on SNMP to design and develop, it means that network layer topology discovery and the link layer topology discovery respectively, among them the network layer topology discovery’s realization is firstly getting the routing table MIB information by SNMP and then analysising the MIB information to get the topology connection relationship, the link layer topology discovery’s realization is firstly getting the address forwarding table MIB information by SNMP and then analysising the MIB information to get the topology connection relationship. The paper also designs the database, interface and so on, the database stores the topology information data and provide topology information data for the client’s interface displaying.The author tests the network topology discovery system in the actual network environment, include function testing and time performance testing. Function testing result shows that the network topology discovery management system can accurately discovery the current scale’s network topology connection; time performance testing result shows that time is longer in the first topology discovery than not the first topology discovery, and also the time will be longer in the large-scale networks topology discovery, through the testing data, the author gives the suggestions for using. At present the Nview network topology discovery management is running in the company’s comprehensive network management system, it gets network management administrators’coincident praise. According to the design and develop of the system, it not only can provide the network topology connection displaying accurately, timely and automatically, but also can provide basic data for other network management.
