With the universal application of network and the development at a fall speed of embedded technique, network communication based on embedded device becomes more and more popular, and has been used widely in image collection and transfer field . Aiming at the increasing requirement for high bandwidth in embedded image processing system, a high-bandwidth, high-speed transport platform is needed, which can overcome transfer bottle-neck of traditional methods, realize high-speed transfer of image data streams, and be of important theoretical value and practical significance. The embedded system is integrated with gigabit Ethernet technique in this paper, establishing a gigabit data transfer system based on DSP and compensating the defect in the application of gigabit Ethernet technique to embedded system.By this way, the speed of the system can be nearly 1000 Mbps. This study will greatly turn embedded image processing system to be widely used in Industry production-line Examination System Area.The main work is bellow:(1) Analyze background related to project. Combining with project, lucubrate the TCP/IP protocol stack, especially TCP/IP protocol stack of Embedded system.(2) Design a Gigabit Ethernet communication platform .The system depends on PCI bus interface for transferring data between two chips, then intergrate with Ethernet. Meanwhile the power supply circuitry, reset circuitry,clock circuitry and JTAG interface circuitry are designed.(3) Based on work mechanism of DSP and 82540EM, shows development of PCI device driver,flow for chart reception and transmission of Ethernet data frames and TCP/IP protocol stack software.(4) Analyze the bottle-neck speed of the system,such as network performance (including network congestion,demand of take in and send out), CPU capability of processor. Emphasisze on study about communication speed on PCI bus. With the help of Matlab, the curve of the maximum PCI speed can be acquired to calculate the high speed of system in theory. Then the feasibility of project can be proved.
