With the development of modern society, Internet technology, communication technology, video monitoring technology have been largely implemented. In the field of video monitoring, traditional computer and video card could not satisfy the requirement of many implementations because of their own disadvantages. Embedded network adapter has become the trend of network video monitoring with the advantage of small size, low power consumption and low cost. This thesis is based on the extensive research, analysis, results of previous studies. With high speed transmission of lossless video signal as background, we designed a high speed Gigabit network adapter scheme for video signal after comparing a variety of schemes. The scheme uses SOPC and embedded Gigabit network technologies. In order to realize the high speed transmission of video signal, we chose Cyclone III FPGA chip, AX88180 MAC chip, and RTL8211 PHY chip as core parts to form the Gigabit network platform, video data could be transmitted without any compression and loss. Open source LwIP protocol stack was chosen as the network stack. In order to solve the problem of low efficiency of embedded network software, we optimized the network stack along with MAC driver.Besides, this thesis also proposed a test plan along with the system to test the functions and performance. Test results showed that the system achieved the goal of design and could satisfy the need of implementation. In addition, this thesis summarized the work of author, and pointed out the further methods to improve the performance of the system.
