The technology of image acquisition and processing plays a very important part in modern times.Recently, in most of the image acquisition systems, CCD is used as imaging device, and then converts the analog information into digital signals by A/D converter and then processes it. This increases the system volume and the cost. With the development of the CMOS circuit's technology, the CMOS and the CCD are well matched in quality recently, and it has the characteristic of high integration density, low cost, and it can produce digital signal directly. Therefore, a new system based on CMOS image sensor and high speed DSP is proposed in this paper. The high speed DSP TMS320DM642 is the system core. This method condenses the whole system and reduces the cost.In this paper, the development and implementation methods of the image acquisition and processing system are researched and analyzed at first, on the foundation of this research and taking into account the design requirement of this system, the method of image acquisition and processing system based on DSP was discussed with emphasis. After the total system design, hardware circuit design including image acquisition and processing circuit, DSP peripheral circuit, man machine interface circuit was given. Then, the initial programmers of the TMS320DM642 processing system are presented, including EMIF controlling register configuration, I2C module configuration, EDMA controlling register configuration and the initial program of COMS. At last, the centroid calculated method and the experiment results are presented.The result shows that the image acquisition system based on the TMS320DM642 and CMOS can work as an independent unit. This kind of system has many advantages such as small size, high processing speed, low power and cost, so it has a promising prospect in non-contact measuring field.
