Most of the portable devices currently used USB interface for communication with PC, which also generated the dependence on PC, if communications could be made between USB devices without PC's intervention, it will bring great convenience to users. For this purpose, we designed a USB data exchange platform which satisfies the demand. Mobile storage devices could communicate with each other via this platform.There are two possible ways to complete the function: First, design an embedded control system complies with the USB OTG specification, which will make a point-to-point communication between USB slave devices; second, design an embedded USB Host system. If we using the first theme, the control system are generally embedded in a USB device , digital partner for example, which connects with other slave devices through a hub, the advantage is: the device have dual role: as a host, it could connect with other USB slave devices; and as a device, it could be accessed by PC. If we choose the second theme, it will be a stand-alone USB Host platform; any two or more USB devices could communicate with each other via it. Compared with the former, it is more flexible. Therefore, we designed an embedded USB Host system.This paper's description focus on how to realize the commonality of the system, that is, any two mobile storage device could work on the platform, as well as how to improve the system's reliability. It also analysis the problems encountered during development. Paper's research production is valuable to other USB system's development.
