Intelligent Home Network is called 3C system, which includes computer, communication and consumer technology. By the home gateway, home network realizes information switch and remote monitoring of its internal intelligent appliances and the gateway is its physical and logical center. Intelligent Home Network is another pop research technology in the post PC age with wide market future. If research on the home gateway is taken as breakthrough, it will boost powerfully digitization and information industry's development of home network and will gain great economic and social benefits.Compared with PC, the embedded system has such merits as smaller volume, lower cost,higher credibility,better stabilization and less power consumption and so on and matches performance of the home gateway better. The embedded Linux becomes a good choice of embedded operating system as a result of its advantages as follows: the open source code,little kernel and whole kernel net structure and so on. In the background of embedded technology's swift development, the paper aims at research and design of the embedded home network gateway based on the 32 bit high performance ARM9 processor and embedded Linux. In the paper some key technology of how to realize the ARM&Linux gateway is researched and discussed and the following work has been done in details:1) Introduction of embedded technology's background and significance of the subject research.2) The gateway's net system architecture.
