Crisis with such characteristics as suddenness, destructiveness, relevancy and excitability, is greatly accorded with the standard of the news value. However, the policy of "Mainly Focus on Positive Propaganda", which had been implemented for a long time, has hindered the crisis report of mass media to a certain extent. After 1990s, since governmental press policies become much more open, and as the news reform continuously goes far, and information channels are diversified day after day, the quality of media crisis report has been improved a lot, and the principal status of news in media has been further enhanced. However, there still lie defects such as the absence of humanistic spirit. Meanwhile, through the comparison of Chinese and Western media crisis report, I think the difference from news idea, media survive system, and traditional culture leads to different crisis coverage between Chinese and Western media. Chinese mass media shall report crisis from diverse perspectives, bring its pre-warning function into full play, and tell the audience the true story in a timely, correct and objective manner, as a qualified watcher of the society.
