Since the product lifecycle is shorter and shorter, the mold industries is required to meet the demand with higher and higher productivity. At present, in the most of mold enterprises, the molds are designed by using 3D CAD software platform. Although 3D CAD makes a great promotion compared with 2D CAD , it is still unable to meet the increasingly fierce competition in the industry circle. The technology of developing a special CAD system for injection mold based on commercial CAD platform can effectively solve the problem, but there are still some problems such as the high technical requirements for developers, long development cycle, high cost and strong platform dependence. Therefore, how to provide a method which does not require strong programming skill and could help the mold designers to design mold quickly, is a work with great significance.Aiming at the injection mold design, the CAD requirements of mold desingers are studied and analyzed in depth。And then a kind of"functional plug-in for 3D CAD"concept is proposed based on the"plug-in"idea of programming. Appling this concept, the designers can quickly construct a design system as their own desire by integrating the packed functional plug-ins.According to the concept mentioned above, the development method is first studied, and then the characterics of injection mold design are analyzed in detail。Based on the research findings, A XML-based Mold-Design Markup Language(MDML) is put forwaed to describe the functions and processes of mold design. The description documents written with MDML is just as the functional plug-ins. In order to use the plug-ins, a parser is developed to run them under UG-NX platform。The application of the MDML has demostrated that it is very impactful to help mold designers building the work-flow and design tools to avoid the tedious design works and reduce the design time。...
