Image acquisition technology has been a hot research topic at home and abroad,it has wide range of applications,such as banks,shopping centers,quality control,traffic management. Most of the traditional image acquisition system is constitutive of PC and professional image capture card, and by constructing private network for image capture and transmission. This image acquisition system cost is generally higher,but also need special maintenance,higher costs, and the transmission distance is limited. In the remote mountainous harsh environment, the traditional image acquisition system is difficult to work.With the rapid development of wireless communication technology and embedded systems technology in recent years, especially for the emergence of ARM and Linux is widely used in embedded system environment. So it's possible that the image acquisition system miniaturization, low cost, low power. A design of Image Acquisition and Wireless Transmission System based on ARM is proposed in the paper. The whole system mainly consists of five parts:microprocessors, USB camera, GPRS modules, memory modules and other peripheral hardware. According to user's need, the system can implements image data acquisition and wireless transmits.The main research work in the paper includes the following three stages:the first stage, studying characteristics of the existing monitoring system carefully, finding its advantages and disadvantages, completing the overall design the system and giving key modules of the system; the second stage, completing system hardware design which mainly includes NAND FLASH interfaces, SDRAM interfaces, USB interfaces, UART interfaces,LCD interfaces; the third stage, completing system software design.Firstly,the paper introduces the method to build embedded integrated development environment based on Eclipse.Bootloader,linux kernel and file system migration are described in detail in the paper. Secondly, the paper describes how to complete the image data acquisition and JPEG compression by using video4linux in Eclipse-based integrated development environment for embedded.Finally, the realization method of wireless transmission image data by the GPRS module is introduced.Finally, presents a method that according to network signal strength received by GPRS module to select appropriate data transmission mode in the wireless transmission. According to the need to control the system is continuous transmission or single frame reception on the server side. This system has been innovative in development environment built and dynamic selection date transmission mode.Image acquisition and wireless transmission system based on ARM has the following characteristics:low cost, low power consumption, small size, wireless long-distance transmission, stable and reliable. It achieves the desired system functional requirements. The system has wide application prospect in the field of intelligent traffic management, commercial security monitoring, environmental monitoring, quality supervision, home security and so on.This paper has been supported by innovation foundation of tech SMEs in Anhui Province in 2008 (project name:embedded wireless monitoring system based on CDMA and DSP image processing technology; item number:08CZ3401107).
