Video suveillant system is an important part of security system,it is a integrated system with powerful secure function. Video suveillant system which features intuitionistic,conveni ent and plentiful information is used in many occasions.recently,with the development of computer science,image disposal and network transmission, video suveillant technology has a big progress. there is a notable transition from traditon simulate video suveillant system to advanced digital network video suveillant system. The characteristic which the wire network has restrict the spread of itself,while wireless network can make up the disadvantage. In the opinion,there has a urgent need to reseach the wireless network transmission of video data,it also has theoretical and practical meaning.Embedded wireless network suveillant system syncretizes computer science, electronics and communications. In the system, hareware platform bases on XScale PXA255 MPU, and sofeware platform is on the base of embedded Linux. The article concerns ARM MPU(Micro Processor Unit) architecture, Embedded Linux kernel analyse migration on MPU, video collection, recognition, and compression disposal under Linux,streaming media network protocol design etc.Firstly,correlative technology and development of embedded system and video suveillant technology are describled in the article,analysing the development status and trendency of inside and outside country,explaining the meaning of the GPRS usage in the video sureillant system,discussing several familiar video sureillant resolvent,contrasting several kinds of prevalent video compressed arithmetic,and researching the video signal demand of wireless channle.secondly,the macro framework including software and hareware of embedded system is designed. Then the macro framework is parted into hardware and software which are designed in details. The hardware design,choosing camera , arm evaluate board based on PXA255 MPU and GPRS module according to the need of video collection and disposal;In software design,cross-compile environment is established first,then according to the booting and start up process of Linux kernel,migrating ARM-Linux OS to objest board. the artcle mark out the whole function of applied software,partition the system into two function units,they are video collection and disposal module and network transmission module.Finally,the artcle gives the method of conneting to GPRS wireless network based on the embedded system,and designes the methods of system tests,testing the real time character and reliability.In the artcle, an integrated scheme from MPU archtecture to object board in order to migrate embedded Linux is given, the function mechanism and kernel development idea of embedded Linux are summed up. Integration all the technology mentioned above and RTP/RTCP/RTSP multiplexing protocol realization, video surveillent system is builded. All the above are characteristic central technologies in design.
