In this thesis, the application of FPGA in this system is discussed firstly. And then the hardware development platform of this embedded system is proposed.The hardware controller module in this system is implemented by FPGA. The targets of the design are as follows: CPU inquires and sets the statues. Moreover, CPU writes or reads the sector of hard driver by FPGA. In FPGA module, we apply IP core technology to realizing ATA-3 protocol. The target chip of the system is Spartan2E-300E of Xilinx. Designing tasks include the design ideal of from top to bottom, description about system hardware by VHDL and state machine, ISE development software and simulation by ModelSim. And then the VHDL program is downloaded into chip and debugged. To improve the normalization and veracity, there are some key points to be noted: 1) The wholesystem is divided into some function blocks by multi-layer programming, and link them in integrating processing. 2) Logic timing is very important in designing processing. For reducing the delay time of gate and circuitry, the numbers of gates signal passed should be as less as possible.The dual-core processor TMS320VC5471(DSP+ARM) is severed as hardware development platform. This processor has various peripherals by ARM and it also has fast calculating ability by DSP. The peripherals include speech coding, Ethernet interface, harddisk, USB interface, keyboard and LCD, etc. Based on the platform, the driver program of the peripheral equipment is developed. Furthermore, some channels are left to transplant embedded operation system uclinux, |iC/OS-II and application programs.
