This paper is a part of the research on the control plane protocols of Intelligent Optical Network, which emphasizes the routing protocol. Along with the exponential growth of data and multi-media service, DWDM and OXC equipment have been prevalently employed to construct larger capacity optical transport network. Intelligent Optical Network could dynamically configure network resource and increase the use of bandwidth by introducing a distributed routing protocol and signaling protocol. Firstly the thesis briefly introduces the concepts of ION and ION control plane protocols based on GMPLS. On the basis of the study of control plane architecture, the paper emphasizes on the routing protocols. In ION network, routing protocol is not only responsible for the discovering of the network topology and the information distribution of network resource, but also takes charge of the calculation of optimal path according to the given constraint conditions. The paper first analyzes the architectures and the requirements of optical routing and the routing protocol extensions made by GMPLS, and then discusses the basic concepts, basic principle and CSPF algorithm of OSPF-TE. At last, the thesis constructs the architecture of OSPF-TE protocol software, the data structure and the design of neighbor management module.
