Commentary On Nationalism Education Thoughts During May 4～(th) Movement

Nationalism education thoughts is a trend of thought in 1920's, which practiced great effect on educational circles of China. After a review of introduction, formation and development of nationalism education thoughts in China, this paper executed an objective analysis on nationalism education attitude, theory dissemination and nationalism education thoughts development based on education history with circumspection, to discover the actual status of nationalism education thoughts in Chinese history of education.The background of nationalism education thoughts booming in China is consisted of theory, which includes of western nationalism education thoughts and loyalty and filial piety and patriotism of Chinese traditional culture, and actuality, which includes of internal demand, exterior incentive and actual prerequisite.After a conclusion, the basic contents of nationalism education ideology is consisted of six main parts, which are aim and task, policy, nationality education, patriotism and military education, ethics education and country education.The practice of nationalism education thoughts includes withdrawal of education sovereignty and establishment of national education system, which analyzed the background and reasons of education sovereignty withdrawal, introduced the effect of nationalism in this movement, and discussed function of teacher, curriculum, teaching materials of primary and middle school and establishment of high education.The research of this paper gave a general assessment about nationalism education thoughts, in which introduced the positive function of it in society, politics, ideology and culture, especially in education, and figured it as a patriotism essentially after an analysis of its limitations in history. With the problems emerged presently, several reasonable contents of nationalism education thoughts will execute a positive effect in Chinese modern education still.
