As a new thing and folk institution behavior, university ranking bears the public expectations and suffers public skepticism, especially the complex comprehensive ranking. The credibility of comprehensive ranking refers to its ability of gaining public trust, enjoying, social credibility and having extensive influence in the process of transmission. Its core is the enthusiasm evaluation and praise degree to the folk evaluation institutions and news media, the essence is the public perception and evaluation caused by the fulfilling circumstance of public expectation.The credibility can be promoted by collective efforts from folk ranking institution and education department under the guidance of media credibility theory.The paper is composed by four main sections. The first section is introduction in which the author aims to express the background and significance of the study as well as the research ideas and methods, which include the literature review about university ranking and credibility at home and abroad.The second section describes the main issues related to the background of the domestic rise about the university ranking and the introductions of the domestic development of university rankings.The third section is concerned with some problems about comprehensive ranking's credibility in university ranking by investigating the present studies. To gain further insight into the main problem, the answer is that existing index system setting problems of its own, ranking commercialized operation, sour grapes, lack of transparency of college information accurately rich.The fourth section studies the guiding thought of promoting the comprehensive ranking's credibility in university ranking which is the theory of media credibility and the development-oriented evaluation idea of higher education. Moreover, the right value orientation is introduced, which includes the clear purpose, the right direction, and scientific process, open and fair. In this study, the main approaches of promoting the comprehensive ranking's credibility in university ranking are expressed as follows:Ranking institutions strengthen the theoretical research of evaluation and improve their index system; Education department strengthen supervision to the evaluation institutions; Try to develop a ranking about classification according to the university entrance exam to college admission batch. Government and education department constructs the "higher education teaching state database" with a high speed.
