Jiang Shiquan (1725-1785)was a famous writer in the middle term of Qing Dynasty. He is not only excellent in poems , essays and Ci, praised as one of the three most famous writers of the time of Qianlong emperor, but also earned himself a feather in his cap as a drama writer . Of the 16 now still existed dramas written by Jiang, 5 was made during the period between 1765 and 1775, when he was of the age 41 to 51. Before this, Jiang Shiquan abdicated his official position in Beijing, and during this term he worked as deans of different colleges in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, so be called his Middle Age College Period. This thesis is mainly on the 5 dramas written in his middle age college period--The Frost of Guilin, The Autumn of Lute, The Man in The Snow, The Chamber of Orchids, and The Dreams of Tang Xianzu. We discussed the complicated thoughts and connotations contained in these dramas, and the causes of them in the article, and we have also contained the argumentations over Jiang's drama conception, the application of tunes, language styles, and the external stimulatives of this creative climax. The main body of this thesis consists of four chapters, the external causes of the writing climax is briefly discussed in the surplus part.Chapter one revolves around the realism thoughts of Jiang Shiqian's dramas. We discussed different aspects of Jiang's attention on society by analyzing various characters in the 5 dramas, and we unscrambled the causes of it through taking the social , academic setting and Jiang's own personality into account.In chapter two ,we talked mainly on Jiang Shiquan's thoughts about essentiality of mankind. By comparing Jiang's dramas and ideas with other writers and thinkers', we tried to discover the unique value and meaning of Jiang Shiquan's dramas and writings.The third chapter explained the complication of Jiang's dramas in this period, focusing on Jiang's personal experiences. And this part ,too, investigates the shrik and anchoretic tendency of Jiang Shiquan in this term. With an eye to the noumenon traits of Jiang's dramas written between 1765 and 1775, we probed into the literature characteristics such as drama conception , tunes and language in chapter four, trying to find out the value of Jiang's dramas under the performance circumstances of Qianlong epoch .Finally , we briefly discussed the external causes of Jiang's middle age college drama writing climax by reviewing his creative activities, the drama performances and criticisms in Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas.The thesis aims to dig out the value of Jiang Shiquan's dramas ,and to acknowledge Jiang's influence and position in the drama and literature history ,and thus initiates the study on the drama writing and performance circs in the middle of Qing Dynasty. As supplements ,we compiled a annual chart of Jiang Shiquan , launched a study on the research circs over the past 2oo years,and also enumerates the South and North tones , the North tones appeared in Jiang's dramas. All of these three mentioned above are placed at the appendix parts as references to the thesis.
