| Objective: To investigate the differences of body mass index (BMI) and biochemical parameters between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with mild and moderate degrees of non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFLD) classified by abdominal ultrasound and merely T2DM patients, and then, to reveal the risk factors of the fatty liver. Methods: 214 T2DM inpatients were elected. After classified by abdominal ultrasound, they were divided into 3 groups namely: merely T2DM group, T2DM + mild NAFLD group and T2DM + moderate NAFLD group. Blood pressure, BMI, fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycohemoglobin (HbA1c), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), gammaglutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), high density lipoprotein- cholesterol (HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein- cholesterol (LDL-C) were collected and compared among each group. Results: (1)In three groups, the level of age, course, BMI, TG, HDL-C, ALT, AST and GGT were significantly different (p<0.01或p<0.05) ,and the level of TC, LDL-C, FBG, HbA1c, SBP and DBP were not significantly different (p>0.05). (2)As Logistic regression analysis showed: BMI was the main risk factor forming T2DM patients with mild NAFLD (p<0.05); BMI and TG were the main risk factors forming T2DM patients with moderate NAFLD (p<0.05). (3) Percentage of obesity patients in three groups were 5.3% (6/114) in merely T2DM group, 16.7% (7/42) in T2DM + mild NAFLD group and 34.5% (20/58) in T2DM + moderate NAFLD group. Proportion of different levels of BMI was significantly different in three groups (p<0.05). Proportion of different levels of BMI , which was significantly different between merely T2DM group and T2DM with mild or moderate NAFLD group (p<0.0167) , was not significantly different between T2DM + mild NAFLD group and T2DM + moderate NAFLD group(p>0.0167), although percentage of obesity in T2DM + moderate NAFLD group was higher than T2DM + mild NAFLD group. Conclusion: There were differences of the main risk factors in diverse severity of NAFLD in T2DM patients. BMI was the main risk factor owned by both T2DM with mild and moderate NAFLD groups. Serum lipid metabolic dysfunction also was the main risk factor in T2DM with moderate NAFLD group. The level of BMI was closely related to the severity of NAFLD in T2DM patients with NAFLD. |
