Objectives:1) To know whether the curriculum setting for the four-year undergraduate nursing programme is reasonable, and to give comments and suggestions for the current training mode reform of the four-year undergraduate nursing programme; 2) To evaluate the competence of the graduates who joined the training mode reform of the undergraduate nursing programme that is the four-year nursing education programme instead of the five-year one. Methods:All the teachers, students, graduates who just finished the four-year nursing programme in one university of Xinjiang, as well as the head nurses of those departments where the graduates work, were investigated with the self-developed questionnaires to evaluate the effect on the current curriculum setting for the four-year undergraduate nursing programme, and to get their evaluation and suggestion for the competence of the graduates who work in the clinical departme-nts.Results:1) Evaluation on the curriculum setting:93% subjects agreed that the curriculum setting is reasonable,86% subjects thought that the curriculum reflects the nursing characteristics,98% subjects thought the proper duration of the undergraduate nursing programme should be 4 years and 92% agreed the humanities curriculum greatly affected the nursing students.2) Comments on the course time and burden of the curriculum setting:93% subjects thought the time and the burden of the curriculum is reasonable, while 49% thought that the burden of the nursing student is too heavy.3) Evaluation of the competence of the graduates who joined the training mode reform of the undergraduage nursing programme:no head nurses gave the comments of "poor" or "very poor" on the competence of these graduates. More than half of the subjects thought the competence of the students is "strong" or "very strong". The score of students'attitudes was the top one with the average score over 4, however, the score of the research ability was the lowest one. Conclusion:The curriculum setting after reform from five-year nurse programme to four-year nurse programme is reasonable, but should have more humanities curriculum and the time for clinical practice should be adjusted. The graduates of the first four-year nursing programme perform well in their departments and the evaluation for them is generally good.
