Changes Of Lan-Dian Yao's Health Care

Health care is an important part of people's livelihood. The reform ofhealth care is the focus of whole society. How to reform the health care ofa minority with the ethnic characteristics, so that minority people getbetter health protection, is a worth exploring new topic in practice.Because the southwest region of China has a large amount of minority,this issue should be particular concerned. A considerable part of themountainous among the southwestern ethnic minorities, such as the Yao,Miao, and these ancient peoples formed a unique national medical cultureduring the long history of development. Today there is a coexistence ofdiverse health care systems in these areas even modern medicine ispopular. After researching of the medical cultural history of the Yao, avillage of Lan-Dian Yao, one branch of the Yao, was chosen to do fieldwork to understand the current health status of the Yao. In addition tochanges of lifestyle and the decline of religion, the most important reasonof Lan-Dian Yao medical cultural change is economic development. Infact, the coexistence of diverse health care systems is currently bothrealistic and necessary in the Yao region. Because of low-cost andefficacy, the herbal medicine is still in use within the Yao region, and acombination health treatment of western medicine and herb should bedeveloped. Finally, special attention is needed for the important role ofrural doctors in rural health care network. The current reality is theinsufficient of quantity and quality of rural doctors. To protect the basicmedical and health services of minority people, we must pay attention toteam building of rural doctors.
