| Purpose:To report the incidence, the risk factors and the prognosis of endophthalmitis after pars plana vitrectomy.Materials:Except for the cases of penetrating trauma or endophthalmitis, medical records(10693 cases) were reviewed for all patients who received vitreoretinal operations from 1 January 2001 to 31 December 2010 at the Secend Clinical Hospital of Jilin University. There were 6 cases of endophthalmitis after pars plana vitrectomy.Methods:The incidence of postvitrectomy endophthalmitis was 0.056%(6/10693) during the 10 years in our hospital. It was displayed that the endophthalmitis after postvitrectomy happened more frequently at the right eye(4 cases), in Middle-aged and Aged(4 cases), and the diabetics(4 cases). In the 6 postvitrectomy endophthalmitis cases, there 3 cases were cultivated, in which there 1 case was aeromonas hydrophila, the others were culture-negative. The final visual acuity was ranged from no light perception to 0.16, in which there 2 cases were no light perception,1 cases was hand move,l cases was finger counter,1 case was 0.05 and 1 case was 0.16.Conclusion:the frequency of postvitrectomy endophthalmitis is rarely low, mostly taken place in Middle-aged and Aged or the diabetics. The final visual acuity is concerned with the characteristics of the disease. |
